3rd annual Eastern Canada District Convention - February 21-23, 2008
It was a marvelous event held in Fredericton New Brunswick, hosted by St. Thomas University and the University of New Brunswick in a joint partnership. Seven different universities from Eastern Canada were represented at the convention, namely: University of Ottawa, University of Toronto, Dalhousie University, Carleton University, University of New Brunswick, University of Waterloo, and St. Thomas University. A total of over 30 Circle K’ers showed up at the event and took part in several activities and workshops. It was a 3 day long event held at the Wu Conference Centre, on the main campus of university of New Brunswick. Workshops focusing on topics such as public speaking and leadership were held during the day and night. Along with this, entertaining classes on ballroom and salsa dancing were also given. We both took notes throughout the convention, so that we could present you guys with details of all the events which took place.

Spaghetti Dinner - November 21st, 2006
The spaghetti dinner was a success, with a great turnout. Even though we had a smaller crowd than last year, we managed to raise about $150 for St Joe's Supper Table, plus we have plenty of leftover spaghetti (uncooked of course) for next year. A big thank you to Tasha and Mai for spearheading this event once again, and to all the volunteers who helped make the night a success!

Children's Wish Foundation - Wishmaker Parade - October 14th, 2006
The parade was really nice, and our club's team somehow ended up at the front! We may have been on the city news, but none of us got a chance to check. The cold, rainy weather (and Joan's experience of getting beaten up by a child) were unfortunate, but we got to decorate wands to carry in the parade and the costumes (Sarah's in particular) were excellent. And of course, the most important part is that we helped such a great cause.

Bartending Fundraiser - Client Reception - October 11th, 2006
A big show of appreciation to our Treasurer, Joan Emode, for participating in this event! According to Joan the event went well, she served a lot of drinks, but unfortunately had no opportunity to snag some leftovers for herself. Better luck next time! But on the bright side, she earned our club $100! Nice work Joan!

Piano Program Car Wash for Keyboards and Music Books - July 24, 2005
The car wash was held from 10-5pm at the Petro Canada gas station at the corner of Bank and Walkley. We had gorgeous weather and no rain directly before or after which was good for business. The intersection is a very busy one, ideal for the car wash. Although the morning’s business was steady and volunteers were continuously kept busy washing cars, by afternoon business had slowed. For next time, it would probably be best to keep the car wash from 10am-2pm and have everyone come for this shift as opposed to breaking the car wash up into three separate shifts.

Asian Heritage Month Gala Concert - May 14, 2005
The Asian Heritage Month Gala Concert featured performers showcasing cultures from all across Asia. Circle K members enjoyed meeting and directing performers backstage, welcoming the public and foreign dignitaries, as well as had an opportunity to taste a variety of Asian foods at the reception. Our club’s help was much appreciated –we were congratulated for our helpfulness and friendliness.

Heart of the City Piano Program 1st Annual Spring Recital - April 25, 2005
The recital was a big success. All fourteen children played beautifully, many in front of their parents for the first time. Freiman Hall in the University of Ottawa music department was the perfect venue. It seats just over 100 people, has comfortable seats, and an elegant stage and grand piano. A number of volunteers from the club and the piano program came early to help set up, film, and take pictures while some piano teachers played duets with their students.

Circle K Charity Pub Night @ The Great Canadian Cabin - March 18, 2005
The University of Ottawa, and the Carleton University Circle Ks put together a fantastic charity pub night. We sold many tickets and raised a good amount of money that will be donated to CHEO and to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. The Charity Pub Night was held at the Great Canadian Cabin. The Charity Pub Night was a great time; the two Circle Ks had a great chance to meet the members and to mingle outside of the weekly meetings. Over all it was a great success.

Kiwanis Circle K Poker Tournament - March 10 , 2005
Around 75 students of the Capital's two universities participated in the very first Kiwanis Circle K Poker Tournament on March 10th, 2005. Michael Martin, of Carleton University Circle K, was the organizing guru behind this palpitating event; under his supervision and with help from the University of Ottawa Circle K and an local Key Club raised over $1,000 for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). Plenty of door prizes, a delicious free lunch, and three handsome top prizes attracted students and media coverage alike. Among the high stakes and low poker faces, Texas Holdem proved to be the perfect kind of game for this event. The enthusiasm and dedication demonstrated by participants and organizers alike made a safe bet of this event's Circle K-style success.

Heart Institute Telethon - February 20 , 2005
As Phone Operators, we manned the phones at the telethon, responsible for taking down all the necessary pledge information. We were on camera so we had to dress nicely; we had the opportunity to wear club shirts but most members didn’t have them and it was cold in the room.
